Reading was host to a number of Danish prisoners captured during the Napoleonic Wars. Laurence Braag was one of those held on parole and who died on the 3rd September 1808.To mark the Golden Jubilee of King George III all the Danish prisoners were granted an amnesty but it came a year too late for Laurence.
The memorial to him can be found on the exterior of the south wall of the nave. A second memorial to Knud Fredricksen has now been lost.
